Discussion Groups

Weekly evenings for deepening understanding through knowledge and meditation

Why do we meet?

These meetings bring together in a safe environment people who want to discover more about their true selves and the universe, look at the real questions of human life, and experience their true potential.

There is unity within us and underlying everything; but with our minds preoccupied with our separate lives we lose touch with it and forget who we really are.

We explore ways to free our consciousness, live more fully in the present moment and come to rest in our true selves.

Are you wanting a deeper understanding of yourself and your being?

What happens?

You are most welcome to join our Wednesday group meetings.

On most Wednesday evenings we meet at 7:15 pm with an informal introduction leading into readings and discussion with a period of meditation or quiet. The meeting finishes shortly after 8:45 pm.

“We take a very practical approach. When we listen to a reading everybody relates it to their own experience. I learn such a lot from hearing other people’s perspectives and insights and applying them to my own day-to-day life”.

What are our sources?

We look for writers, teachers, artists and scientists who express something of our immense potential as compassionate human beings and offer ways to ‘self-realisation’- ‘liberation’- ‘enlightenment’ - through stilling our minds, leaving our separate egos and opening our ‘hearts.

These include the Upanishads, Bhagavad-Gita, Christian poets and mystics, Plato, Emerson, Rumi, Joseph Campbell, P D Ouspensky, Eckhart Tolle, Rupert Spira, Thich Nhat Hanh, John O’Donohue, Adyashanti, Narain Ishaya, leading scientists and many more.

HH Shantanand SaraswatiOur ‘non-dualistic’ approach is inspired particularly by our connection formed over many years with a Self-realised Vedantic teacher HH Shantanand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of north India. He was introduced to us through Dr Francis Roles of The Study Society, London, a group similar to ours. Through them, we learnt an authentic method of mantra meditation which supports our understanding and practice. These connections have enabled us to put our own questions and receive practical advice easy to apply in our daily life today.

Although we are a small group in Wellington, we are part of a long tradition of inquiry associated with groups around the world. With wonderful facilities in the centre of Wellington, we are looking for new members to share our rich tradition with.
